Coy Briggs Leonard

Mr. Coy Briggs Leonard, 90, of Tyro Road, died Wednesday, September 16, 2026.

He was born on September 3, 1936, to the late Arvil Coy Leonard and Vallie Mae Leonard of Rowe Road in Lexington. Briggs’s life was defined by intense devotion to those he loved and cherished and to his church. He shared a beautiful, 61-year journey with the love of his life, his wife, Glenda Dameron Leonard, and held a deep, enduring love for his family, taking immense pride in his son, daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren.

Briggs graduated from Reeds High School in 1954 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from High Point College in 1958. Following college, he proudly served his country in the Air National Guard before beginning an almost 40-year career with Mid-State Tile Company in Lexington, NC, in 1960. Over the decades, he held a variety of key roles, including the establishment of the initial Customer Service and Ordering department, the management of regional distribution center operations in Texas and California, Credit Manager, and the Director of Customer Service.

Briggs was a faithful member of Tyro Methodist Church for 72 years, serving on—and often chairing—countless committees. He taught the Adult Co-Ed Sunday School class and was instrumental in advocating for the new Sanctuary, Fellowship Hall, and the Family Life Center breaking ground in October 2026—a dream first set in motion in 2000 by a church committee on which he served. Though he realized the Family Life Center would not directly benefit him, he knew it would serve future generations, and that brought him great joy. A man of deep vision and wisdom, he led with a kind, humble spirit that offered lasting life lessons to his family and friends. Always the optimist seeing the glass half-full, his positive attitude was infectious and deliberate. His life will forever remain an inspiration to his family and friends, and a testament to the faith first instilled in him by his parents, Vallie and Coy, and cherished in his Savior, Jesus Christ.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Glenda Dameron Leonard.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Chris and Karen Leonard; three grandchildren, Justin, Sam, and Kate Leonard; Justin’s fiancée, Bethany Latham; sister-in-law and her husband, Jill and Danny Wood; niece and her husband, Carmen and Jason Mutch; and nephew and his wife, Matthew and Candace Wood.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, September 21, 2026, at Bethel Cemetery, with Rev. Randy Foster officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour following the service.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made in Briggs’s honor to Tyro Methodist Church, Memo: Family Life Center Project, 4484 S. NC Highway 150, Lexington, NC 27295.
