Coy Eugene Temple passed away on May 20, 2017 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice House in Winston-Salem, NC. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, May 25 at Davidson Funeral Home – Hickory Tree Chapel (858 Hickory Tree Road, Winston-Salem, NC .) The service will be officiated by the Rev. Charles Ireson. The family will be receiving friends following the service in the chapel and at the home. He was born to Lester and Alma Temple in Guilford County on February 23, 1933. He graduated from Reeds High School and then earned a BS from Appalachian State University and a MA from East Carolina University. Following service in the US Army, Coy began his teaching career at Lexington Junior High School where he met his future wife, Barbara Hedrick. They were married on August 6, 1960. Born to them was their daughter, Leia, who preceded him in death in 2015. His brothers, Aubrey, Chub and John also preceded him in death. Coy is survived by his wife, Barbara; son-in-law, Tony Nichols; one grandson, Joshua Nichols (Tiffany); four great-grandchildren – Skye, Annie, Lynix and Cammie; sister-in-law, Betty Temple; one niece, Lynn (Temple) Frank (Garry); and three nephews, Jay Temple (Crystal), Scotty Temple (Cathy) and Tony Temple (Elizabeth). Coy will always be remembered for his love of antiques, auction sales and flea markets! He believed in the value of quality education and was a strong advocate of higher learning. Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.
