Coyt Witherspoon Hewitt, age 94, of Lexington passed away Friday afternoon, April 13, 2012 at VA Medical Center in Salisbury. Funeral service will be held 11:30 am Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at First Lutheran Church where he was a member, with Rev. Sam Shore officiating. Burial will military honors at Salisbury National Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the First Lutheran Church Life Center from 10:00 am until 11:30 am prior to the service.
Coyt was born in Iredell County, May 31, 1917 to John Henry Hewitt and Sarah Essie Witherspoon Hewitt. He was a retired employee of Rockingham County as an Electrical Inspector. He was a veteran of the US Army having served in World War II and was a member of Disabled American Veterans. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mary Alice Hewitt in 2003; his son, Coyt Hewitt, Jr.; sisters, Irene Ballard and Frances McKinnis; brothers, J.H. Hewitt, Joseph Hewitt and Ray Hewitt.
Surviving are his daughter; Eve Lockwood and husband Robert, Jr. of Lexington; two granddaughters, Robin Lockwood of Denver, CO and Kathleen Lockwood of Winston Salem; sisters, Annie Pearl Loflin of Thomasville and Nancy Matheson of Midland, NC; brothers, Grover Hewitt of Cleveland, NC and Carlton Hewitt and wife Janet of Statesville, NC.
