Craig Bruce Woosley
12/24/1958 - 12/21/2024
Making the world smile up to his final days, Craig Bruce Woosley, 65, of Winston-Salem, passed away December 21, 2024, three days short of his Christmas Eve birthday, at Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, surrounded by his family and Pastor Rick of Mt Olivet Church. Craig, also known as G-Daddy, Big Woo, and other choice names not appropriate for print, was born to Betty Colleen (Sink) and Bruce Webster Woosley and grew up in the Washington Park Neighborhood off Banner Ave. He graduated from Parkland High School and attended UNC Charlotte where he served as the Miner 49er mascot.
Anyone who knew Craig recognized him as a fun loving, kind-hearted jokester who loved his family, his dogs, the Oakland/Los Angeles/Las Vegas Raiders (whatever city they are in now), NASCAR, certain four-letter words, and a cold Bud Light. Craig was a friend to everyone he met and a stand-in paternal figure to anyone who needed a dad. Craig was known for bringing dinner in for the whole lifeguard staff and friends at Arcadia Pool, screaming at every referee/umpire/official during his daughters’ sporting events, team captain/official hot head of the Highland softball team, and king of the Montreat talent show.
Craig lived his life being the reason someone smiled today. If you were around him his laughter was contagious, and you were sure to get a perfectly timed ‘dad joke’ or an off the wall comment that you couldn’t help but snicker about. He was the life of the party and had a heart of gold. Craig stood up for what he believed in and was never shy to give his opinion. That is probably where his daughters got their brazen personalities. Craig, along with former wife Cathy Greene, raised the strongest, most independent, and bold daughters. Although heartbroken, they welcome the community to share stories and photos of their father so he can be cherished for the monumental impact he had in so many lives.
Craig is survived by his three daughters Elizabeth Bragg (Joshua), Ally Anderson (Justin), Nina Beck; grandchildren Parker, Charlie, Sailor and Easton; sister Patsy Perryman (George); brother Steve Woosley (Kim) and countless adoptive daughters and sons throughout the years; Tracy, Molly, Mason, and Covi; because Craig welcomed anyone and everyone into his home and life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Colleen and Bruce Woosley; sister Debby Woosley Fix Casey, and son in law Alan Beck.
A visitation with family will be held Friday, December 27th from 5:00-7:00pm at Highland Presbyterian Church in Winston-Salem. The funeral service will be Saturday, December 28th at 11:00am at Mt Olivet United Methodist Church in Arcadia.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Mt Olivet United Methodist Church at https://giving.myamplify.io/app/giving/mtolivetlexingtonumc. Craig had recently started going back to Mt Olivet Church as it was his childhood church family. It was his dream to grow the church by bringing in new members, growing the choir, and fundraising. Craig would love to see this happen in his memory.
The family also wants to thank the incredible staff at Atrium Health ICU 4A and floor 8 that treated Craig, listened to his stories, laughed at his jokes, and got to see and love what an amazing man he was even during a time of pain and uncertainty.
Rest easy Craig, our lives are forever better having known and loved you.
