Curtis Edwin Leonard, 80, of Locust Drive, went to be with his Savior, Saturday, March 30, 2013, at his home.
The funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2013, at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ, where he was a member, with the Rev. Darrell Sluder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with military graveside rites. The family will receive friends prior to the service at the church and other times at the home of his grandchildren.
Mr. Leonard was born September 1, 1932, in Davidson County, to Robert Lee Leonard and Emma Wood Leonard. He was a former supervisor at Burlington Furniture and retired from the Davidson County Bus Garage. He was a member of the American Legion Post 8, Amvet Post 13. At his church he formerly served as an Elder and Deacon and was a member of the Men’s Brotherhood. Mr. Leonard was a sports enthusiast and die hard Duke basketball and Atlanta Braves fan. Curtis had never met a stranger and always put his Lord and family first. He enjoyed spending time at Henry James where he loved the staff and friends he had there. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Jessie Leonard, Dallas Leonard, Virgil Leonard, Marshall Leonard, Jerry W. Leonard, and Reitzel Leonard; and sisters, Marie Leonard Medlin, Virginia Leonard McFarland, Colleen Leonard Whitehead, Geraldine Leonard Drawdy, and Emma Lee Leonard Spry.
Surviving are sons, Curtis E. Leonard Jr.; daughter, Susan Buffkin and life partner, Jeffery Flowers; granddaughter, Kristen Leonard and fiancé, Daniel Livengood; grandson, Jason Buffkin; brother, Bob Leonard; and sister, Wilhelmina Fischer of Augusta, Ga.
