Charles William "C.W." Long Sr., 85, of Lamb Road, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 13, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem after a short illness.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the chapel of Tyro United Methodist Church by the Revs. Randy Foster and Max Shoaf. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery.
Mr. Long was born March 4, 1922, in Davidson County to Benjamin Franklin Long and Sudie Smith Long. He was retired from the Davidson County Sheriff's Office and was a veteran of the U.S. Army who served in World War II. He also was a former fire chief of the Tyro Volunteer Fire Department. He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Long; and four sisters, Virgina Pickett, Bessie McBride, Frances Wilson, and Mary Helen Swicegood.
He is survived by his wife, Geneva Morgan Long of the home; a son, Charles William Long Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Lexington; daughters Barbara Barnes and her husband, Jeff, of Lexington and Betty Cain and her husband, Rick, of Winston-Salem; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Tyro United Methodist Church, 4484 N.C. Highway 150 South, Lexington, NC 27295, or to the donor's choice.
