Larry “Dale” Wilson, 80, a lifelong resident of Lexington, passed away on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Wake Forest Baptist Lexington Medical Center. Dale was born on January 16, 1941 in Davidson County to Rolly Wilson and Mary Elizabeth Brummett Wilson. He was preceded in death by his parents and by his much beloved sister, Janet Wilson Thompson.
Dale graduated from Central Davidson Senior High School in 1959, one of the first classes to graduate from the new school. Following graduation he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he proudly served his country and was the recipient of a Good Conduct Medal. Dale worked with PPG Industries in Lexington from the time the opened their facility here until his retirement 40 years later. He was an avid surf fisherman and loved his fishing trips with friends over the years to the North Carolina Outer Banks and Portsmouth Island, NC. Dale was also an avid Duke Basketball fan and enjoyed many years of friendly rivalries with his friends who are UNC-CH basketball fans.
Dale is survived by his wife, Carol Stiles Wilson, two daughters, Wendy Miller (Jimmy) and Debbie Citta (Nelson), and by his four granddaughters, all of Lexington. He was a very proud Papaw to Cassie Miller, Kayla Miller, Caroline Citta, and Lily Citta and never hesitated to brag about them to anyone who would listen.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, September 18, 2021 at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Jimmy Miller officiating services.
