Dallas was born on October 19, 1928, in Davidson County, to Lawrence E. Lanier and Lessie Shoaf Lanier. Along with his parents, Dallas was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, and the love of his life, Mildred P. Lanier. He was also preceded in death by his son-in-law, F. David Koontz; and his eight siblings and their spouses.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Joretta L. Koontz; grandson, Shannon D. Koontz and wife, Susan; great granddaughters, Sara Koontz and Sydney Styers and husband, Cody, of Lexington; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Dallas was a lifelong member of Second Reformed UCC where he was active in the Men’s Brotherhood, and an Elder. He remained active with Second Church until his health prevented him from attending.
Dallas had a strong work ethic and a generous heart. Along with his late wife, Mildred, he built a successful plumbing business: Dallas Lanier Plumbing, which he owned and operated for forty years. He was never happier than being on the backhoe getting things done for a customer.
Dallas was a farm boy at heart. Every year he planted a garden that produced way more than his family could use. One of his greatest joys was giving away the “fruits of his labor” from the garden to others.
Dallas will be remembered for his love of family. His great generosity to his family, his church, and his community gave him much joy.
The family would like to thank his two caregivers, Ruby Wagner and Eva Funderburk for their care of Dallas.
The family would also like to thank Hospice of Davidson County and the caregivers of the Senior Helpers of High Point, who cared for Dallas during his last days with us. For your compassionate care and loving kindness to Dallas, the family will forever be grateful.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County or Second Reformed United Church of Christ.
