Danny Wayne Smith, 79, of Lexington, passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 PM, Saturday, January 4, 2025, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM following the visitation, at the funeral home.
Burial will take place after the funeral at Forest Hill Memorial Park.
Danny was born on February 27, 1945, in Gaston County, to the late John Daniel Smith and Dicy Huggins Smith. He graduated from West Davidson High School in 1963 and upon graduation, joined the National Guard. After having proudly served his country, he attended DCCC from 1968 – 1972.
Danny later went on to own and operate his own business along with his wife Carmen, Window Fashions by Carmen. He then retired from Navis Global as a Supervisor and Manager.
He is remembered for his love of classic cars, especially Corvettes, and NASCAR was a beloved past time. Dale Earnhardt was his favorite racer, and he would make sure to watch every race he was in.
Danny also enjoyed golf, and working with his hands. There was nothing he couldn’t fix and his knack for tinkering was much appreciated by family and friends, most notably when putting together Christmas presents for the grandchildren.
He had a heart for animals and showed love and care to the ones who came in and out of his life. Lucky, his most precious fur baby was there to greet him whenever he came home and has no doubt done the same in heaven.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by two brothers, Leonard Smith and Clyde Smith.
Those who will carry on his legacy are his wife, Carmen Smith, of the home; son, Thomas Ullman (Courtney), of Belews Creek; daughters, Misty Burns (Billy), of Lexington, and Dawna Frank (Derick), of Lexington; brother, Doug Smith (Pat), of Lexington; sisters, Madeline Davis, of Churchland, and Nancy Koontz, of Churchland; and grandchildren, Audrina, Jagger, Bianca, Chaz, and Whitney.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to Davidson County Animal Alliance at https://www.dcanimalalliance.org/donate.
