Danny Edward Spurrier, 76, of Lexington departed this earth on Wednesday, June 7, 2023, to be with his Heavenly Father.
Danny, a proud veteran of the US Navy, was born in Davidson County on January 3, 1947, (or 1/3/dirt if you asked him) to Hovis Edgar Spurrier and Doris Hendrix Spurrier. He was retired from PPG, with over 30 years of service, and spent his free time on High Rock Lake near his favorite fishing spots.
Mr. Spurrier was a loving husband, who enjoyed his wife’s chicken casserole, chicken pie, or the occasional slice of Pineapple Upside Down Cake. His daily walks with his dog, Pepper, to admire his yard transformation completed by Sandy or down to the street to “get his steps in” made him a constant presence in his neighborhood. He was even voted as the unofficial mayor of Southmont by neighbors who became great friends.
Known to those who knew him best as Snake, Danny enjoyed watching his Tarheels while sharing the footrest of his recliner with Pepper.
Danny was given a second chance at life thanks to organ donation from Timmy in 2005. He took great care of his lungs and would encourage all of us to quit smoking and sign up for organ donation as it impacted him so greatly. He continued to live life to the fullest, enjoying church, occasional trips to the mountains or beach, and years of marriage to Sandy.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his step-daughter, Jennifer Caudle; and brother, Doug Spurrier.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Sandra Bergman Spurrier; his sons, Danny G. Spurrier (Annette), Scott Spurrier (Wendy), Bill Freeman (Tracie), and Shawn Freeman (Robbi); his daughter, Cassie Spurrier Blackwelder (Justin); a sister, Joni Messer; a sister-in-law Melva Kaye; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; his precious K-9 companion, Pepper; and a host of extended family.
He will be missed by all who knew him but his wisdom, quiet strength, and perseverance will be lasting imprints on us all.
A celebration of life service will be held at 6 pm on Monday, June 19, 2023, in the Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel with Pastor Ray Harris officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.
