David Eugene Miller

David Eugene “Gene” Miller, 78, of West Center Street Extension, died Monday, August 15, 2016, at his home. The funeral will be 3 p.m. Thursday, August 18, 2016, at Paul’s Chapel Evangelical and Reformed Church with the Rev. Aaron Long officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home. Mr. Miller was born May 1, 1938, in Davidson County, to Cecil King Miller and Mary Agnes Koontz Miller. He was a self-employed auto mechanic and owner/operator of Cecil Miller Used Cars. Mr. Miller was a charter member of Paul’s Chapel Reformed Church. He was presented an honorary lifetime membership of the NC Lion’s Foundation and received the First Citizen of the Year Award from West Lexington Lions. Mr. Miller was a member of West Lexington Volunteer Fire Department and coached Little League baseball at Paul’s Chapel. At his church Mr. Miller served as a Deacon/Elder and enjoyed barbecuing for the church and many other civic clubs and events. He was a member of the Board of Directors for Special Olympics and also coached during events. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving are his loving wife, Rebecca Everhart Miller of the home; son, David Lee Miller and wife Jackie of Lexington; daughter, Vickie Miller Koontz and husband Kef of Lexington; five grandchildren, Robbie Koontz, Joe Koontz and wife Hannah, Holly Hampton and husband Bryan, Teresa Miller and Dava Miller; great-grandchildren, Camden Koontz, Karis Koontz, Noah Hampton, Emily Hampton, Joshua Hampton, and Jonathan Hampton. Memorials May be made to Paul’s Chapel Reformed Church, 2791 West Center Street Extension, Lexington, NC 27295; or Special Olympics, P.O. Box 1067, Lexington, NC 27293. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at Care South, Hospice of Davidson County and Dr. Terry Arnold and his staff.
