David Jennings George

November 3, 1949 — July 2, 2025

Mr. David Jennings George of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, entered into the presence of the Lord on July 2, 2025, at the age of 75.

Born in Elkins, West Virginia, on November 3, 1949, David was the son of the late Calvin and Retha George. A devoted husband, loving father, and faithful servant of God, David lived a life marked by compassion, integrity, and unwavering commitment to both his faith and his family.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1969 to 1973. In 1991, he answered the call to ministry and was ordained as a Minister of the Gospel. He was later ordained as a deacon in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida and continued to serve faithfully in a bi-vocational ministry while working with Charles Colson, founder of Prison Fellowship Ministries. In 2005, David was ordained to the priesthood in the Charismatic Episcopal Church. Following his retirement, he was received into the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA) and has joyfully served as an assisting priest at Christ Church in Winston-Salem since 2016.

David was a gifted woodworker, a steady and compassionate caregiver, He touched countless lives through his ministry, including the many children of the Parish, and led by quiet example, never seeking recognition but always offering grace.

He is preceded in death by his parents; a beloved daughter, Laura Saumier; and a brother, John George.

Left to cherish his memory are his devoted wife of 51 years, Sara Sheppard George; his son, Jonathan George (Jill); four treasured grandchildren, Zachary, Noah, Parker, and Joel; son in law Micah Saumier; brothers Paul George (Loretta) and Stephen George (Julie); sisters Mary McCartney, Martha Pinkston (Michael), Beckie Nelson (Dan), Eunice Wallace (Dennis), and Esther Black (Bill); as well as many nieces, nephews, fellow clergy, and dear friends.

A service to honor and celebrate David’s life and legacy will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at Christ Church, 1210 Bolton Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103, where he served faithfully as volunteer clergy. Burial with military honors will follow at Salisbury National Cemetery.

A vigil will be held the evening prior, Tuesday July 8, 2025, at 6:30 PM at Christ Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Christ Church, 1210 Bolton Street, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
