David Jordan Holland, 91 of Centerclair Nursing Home in Lexington and formerly of Raleigh Road, passed away Wednesday evening, Aug. 26, 2009, at 8:20 p.m.
A funeral service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Craig Barnhill. Burial will follow in Lexington City Cemetery.
David was born in Sampson County on July 7, 1918, to Jordan Holland and Olivia Vann Holland. He was a veteran of the U.S. Merchant Marines, a member of Holloways Baptist Church and a retired employee of ITT Grinnell in Kernersville. David was a lover of trains, having served as a volunteer with Amtrak on The Carolinian. For many years he was involved with gospel music, singing in a quartet and promoting gospel singings. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his loving wife, Lottie Byrd Holland.
Surviving are two sons, Steven C. Holland and Mark J. Holland and his wife, Connie, all of Lexington; two grandchildren, Pam Idol and her husband, Scott, and Brian Holland and his wife, Misty, all of Lexington; and two great-granddaughters, Alisha Nichole Callicutt and Anna Elizabeth Callicutt.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home on Sunday from 2 until 3:30 p.m. prior to the service.
