David Franklin Shanks

March 22, 1937 — November 2, 2009

David Francis Shanks, age 72 of Hadley Drive, Lexington passed away suddenly Monday (Nov. 2, 2009) in Newport News Virginia.  There will be no service.  The family will receive friends Monday (Nov. 9, 2009)from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at Davidson Funeral Home Lexington.   Dave was born in St. Louis, MO, March 22, 1937 to Edgar Shanks and Hazel Dean Shanks.  He was employed with URS in Washington, DC and was working with the Army Corp of Engineers in Newport News, VA.  He was a Methodist and a graduate of the University of St. Louis.  He was a veteran of the US Marines.  He had a passion for the game of golf and loved his children and grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents.   Surviving are: wife, Patricia (Pat) Ragan Shanks of the home; two daughters, Kelly Lippman and husband Michael of Seattle, Washington, and Nicki Brents and husband John of TN; three sons, Scott Jarvis of Atlanta, GA, Randy and Rusty Jarvis both of Lexington; nine grandchildren, Jon, Taylor, Conner, and David Jarvis, Ryan, Macy, and Landon Brents, Sarah and Noah Lippman; one sister, Marsta Jose of California; one brother, Bob Howell of St. Louis, MO; one niece, Kim Lewis; three nephews, Mike and Jeffrey Martin and Phillip Ragan.   A special thanks to URS and the Corp of Engineers in Newport News, VA and to Ed Manship and Mike Bullock.   IN LIEU OF FLOWERS, Memorials should be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC  27292 or to a charity of your choice.   Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
