Deanna Hubbs, 83, died at Brookstone Retirement Center in Lexington, NC on June 15 after a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
She was born Sarah U. Hodge on May 9, 1924 in Rhodhiss, NC to Betty Teague Hodge. She was the youngest of seven siblings, all of whom preceded her in death.
After graduating from Lexington High School in 1941, she married the love of her life, Robert F. “Bob” Hubbs on August 1 of that same year. They remained happily married and wholly committed until Bob died on April 1 of this year.
Through the years, Deanna held positions at several local businesses including Erlanger Mills, Hankins Department Store, Advance Auto, Retail Merchants Association and Carolina Coin Catering Company.
Bob and Deanna had one son, Robert Millard Hubbs, born on April 15, 1948, who attended Lexington High School and later joined the Air Force, stationed at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, SC. Robert married Sarah Elizabeth Swicegood in 1969 and had one son, Robert Christopher “Chris”, in 1971. In August, 1973, Robert was killed in a car accident in Lexington.
Deanna is survived by her grandson, Chris Grice; his wife, Regan; and their daughter, Roxy. She also leaves behind her former daughter-in-law, Sarah Grice; her husband, David; and their daughter, Lindsay.

The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home on Wednesday, June 20 from 10:00 until 11:00 am. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday in the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dwight Cartner officiating. Burial will follow in the Lexington City Cemetery.
