Dennis Kerr Brock "Tom"

June 29, 1935 — November 6, 2023

Dennis Kerr Brock “Tom”, 88, of Davidson County, passed away on Monday, November 6, 2023, at Pine Ridge Health and Rehabilitation Center.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 18, 2023, at 3:30 PM, at Bethesda Church in The Family Life Center (2922 Bethesda Rd. Lexington, NC) with Rev. Janet Dixon officiating.

The family will receive friends following the service, also in The Family Life Center.

Tom was born on June 29, 1935, in Clinton NC, to the late Albert Brock and Hattie Holder Brock. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was stationed in Hawaii and San Diego from 1953 – 1957, then went on to be in the Active Reserve for four years and then two years in the Reserve. It was in the Navy where he learned his trade, and following his military service Tom owned and worked at Top Shop until he retired from barbering.

Tom was known for his love of bowling, golfing, tinkering, and watching the Dallas Cowboys play football. One of his favorite times in life was when he was a work camper and travelled across the U.S. with his 5th Wheel Dually and RV. Tom is also remembered to be an animal lover and pet rescuer to any who crossed his path. However, his greatest love was for his family. He was a wonderful husband and father, and loved doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren who were the apple of his eye.

Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother, Dewey Brock; and two sisters, Mildred McGee, and Becky Long; one half brother, Albert “Buddy” Brock; and three half sisters, Elizabeth Schessow, Ethel Mae “Candy” Bivens, and Kathalene “Pete” Norris.

Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife, Shelby Chester Brock; his sister, Ruby Smith of Wilmington; son, Dennis Brock (Barbara), of Winston-Salem; daughters, Debra Day (Mike), of Greensboro and Cindy Matthews, of Cary; four stepsons, Michael New, David New, Sammy New, and Danny New; and stepdaughter, Nori New Jackson, seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and many nieces.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations be made to Hospice of Davidson County, or Davidson County Animal Shelter.
