Dennis Dee Burnette

Dennis Dee Burnette, 85, of Lowell Street in Lexington, passed away Sunday September 4, 2022 at his home.

A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm Thursday at Friendship United Methodist Church with Rev. David Peeler officiating services. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park with Military Graveside Rites.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30 Thursday at the church.

Mr. Burnette was born November 7, 1936 in Swain County to Edmond Clint Burnett and Margaret Emma Green Burnett. Dennis taught Sunday School for over 20 years, served in the United States Army and United States Army National Guard and enjoyed Fishing and Baking.   He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Elsie Bernice Elliott Burnette and a sister, Mary Lou Brown.

Surviving are two sons, Danny Burnette and Jerry Burnette both of Lexington; a daughter, Tammy Burnette Cornell of Lexington; three brothers, Carl Burnette (Patsy) of Brevard North Carolina, Doug Burnette (Reva) and Roger Burnette (Linda) both of Bryson City North Carolina; one sister Janette Leonard (Meggs) of Athens Georgia; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
