Dennis Dayton Odom, 87, of Alston Brook Nursing Home, died on Thursday, October 16 at Hospice of Davidson County from declining health. The funeral will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 18, 2014, at First Pentecostal Church of Lexington, Hwy 64 East, by the Revs. J.C. Miles, Alan Greene, and Wade (Bud) Powell. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, October 17, 2014, at Davidson Funeral Home, and other times at the home of his daughter, Vickie Powell, at 836 Abbid Street, Lexington, NC. Mr. Odom was born in Hickory, NC on February 7, 1927, to Marshall Ervin Odom and Sally Walker Odom (both deceased). He was married for 58 years to Lora Louise Leonard Odom (deceased in 2007). Dennis was a member of Thomasville Church of God. He was a retiree from Proctor and Schwartz, Inc., and was the music director at Lexington Church of God, First Pentecostal Church, and Faith Chapel for a combination of over fifty years. In addition, Dennis was the community Santa Claus for multiple businesses, hospitals, nursing homes, and schools for over thirty years. He was preceded in death by his sister Beatrice Wallace of Welcome, NC, and his brother Ronald Odom of Mt. Airy, NC. Surviving are his two sons, Steve D. Odom and wife, Becky, Eddie D. Odom and wife, Sandra; two daughters, Vickie O. Powell and husband, Dan, and Judy O. Fleenor and husband, Wayne; nine grandchildren, Dale Odom and wife, Carol, Ronda Harlow and husband, Jay, David Rumfelt IV and wife La’La, Michael Odom and wife, Gina, Chris Powell and wife, Valerie, Heath Rumfelt and wife, Wendy, Jennifer Beck and husband, David, Delaina Carter and husband, Monty, Kristi Fleenor and husband, Todd Brown; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving are his brothers Dr. Robert Odom of Lexington, Tommy Odom of Port St. Lucie, FL, and his sister Aileen Lyon of Welcome, NC. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Davidson County, P.O. Box 1941, Lexington, NC 27293.
