Dermot “Gene” Eugene Thompson, 81, a resident of Lexington, passed away Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Forsyth Medical Center. Gene was born on March 23, 1940 in Davidson County to the late Clarence Leroy and Velna Byerly Thompson. He retired from Billings Trucking Company after many years. Gene was a graduate of Lexington Senior High School then went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Marine Corps. He attended House of Hope Church in Lexington, and was a member of Wayside Freewill Baptist Church in Thomasville where he taught Sunday School. Gene was a man who loved the Lord. He enjoyed fishing, panning for Gold, and was a race fan, especially of Richard Petty. He loved traveling to Gatlinburg, TN and the beach for family vacations. Gene will be missed by many. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Pamela Williams Thompson; a daughter; and two brothers. A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 3, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the Chapel at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington. The family will greet friends on Thursday evening from 6-8 PM at the funeral home. Interment will follow the service in Forest Hill Memorial Park. Gene is survived by two sons, Christopher Thompson, of the home; Scott Thompson (Sandra) of Wallburg; three daughters, Kelly Schwartz of Lexington and Jean Michelle Falls, who preceded him in death; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
