Richard "Dick" Charles Burnett, 63, of Odell Owen Road, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening, Aug. 18, 2009, at VA Medical Center in Durham.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at First Alliance Church by the Rev. Paul Titus. Inurnment will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Salisbury National Cemetery Columbarium.
Mr. Burnett was born in Seneca County, N.Y., May 12, 1946, to Robert Phillip Burnett and Freida Mae Burdick. He was a plumber with Carter Plumbing in Kernersville and a member of First Alliance Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines having served in Vietnam and a member of the Marine Corps League. He was preceded in death by his parents and his son-in-law, GYSGT, Edward Reeder, who was killed in action in Iraq on Aug. 21, 2004.
Surviving are his wife, Terry Patrick Burnett of the home; a daughter, Christine Anne Reeder of the home; two grandchildren, Sarah Ruth Reeder and Jarrett Thomas Reeder; one stepson, James Minor Pyke of Oswego, N.Y.; four sisters, Sharon Baker of Minneto, N.Y., Sandra Bradford of Oswego, N.Y., and Karen and Kathy Burnett of Jordan-Elbridge, N.Y.; and three brothers, Lawrence Burnett of Georgia, Gerald Burnett of Cato, N.Y., and Robert P. Burnett Jr. of Fulton, N.Y.
The family will greet friends at the church following the memorial service.
