Dock Roland Kesler Jr., 85, of Boones Cave Road, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, at his home surrounded by family following an extended battle with prostate and bone cancer.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Vance Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. A private burial will be in Churchland Baptist Church cemetery.
Mr. Kesler was born May 19, 1924, in Davidson County, to Dock Roland Kesler Sr. and Elizabeth Wilson Kesler He was a graduate of Churchland High School in 1942. He later served in Austria during World War II. After serving the country in the military he retired from Burlington Industries in Lexington. Dock enjoyed life and people; he never met a stranger. His greatest joy was time spent with his children, grandchildren and many friends. He loved to coon hunt, ride horses, fish, and garden. He had a quick sense of humor which he maintained until the end. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Francis Carlile Kesler; a brother, Paul Kesler; and a sister, Iris Grice.
Surviving are sons, Donald Kesler and wife, Dede, of Churchland, and Lonnie Kesler, of Lexington; daughter, Jean Kesler Vukoson and husband, Bruce, of Chapel Hill; grandchildren, Dock Kesler of Charlotte, Alexandra Kesler of Greenville, Seth Kesler, April Kesler, both of Linwood, Jessie Vukoson of Denver, Co.; brother, Harold Kesler of Churchland; sister, Kathleen Michael of Lexington; niece Susan Spann of Lexington; and nephew, Gerald Spann of Salisbury.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the many friends and family members who have been so helpful and supportive during Dad’s illness.
