Modolan Penland “Dodie” Burkhart, 85, of Bowers Road, died Saturday, October 1 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem.
A funeral service will be held at 2 pm Tuesday, October 4 at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Michael Greer. Burial will follow at Mt. Tabor United Church of Christ Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 1:30pm Tuesday prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Burkhart was born October 23, 1930 in Gaston County to William Franklin Penland and Ollie Leonard Penland Workman. She was a retired bookkeeper and member of Cross Point Church. Her husband, John Bryce Burkhart, preceded her in death, as well her brother, Bobby Penland.
She is survived by her son, Barry D. Burkhart (Linda) of Lexington; her daughters, Joanie B. Bunn (David) of Linwood and Lisa B. Deal (Ken) of China Grove; her grandchildren, Brandi Averett (Will), Mindi Sink (Chad), Shelli Everhart (Jared), Kendra Owens (Jason) and Kinsley Deal; ten great-grandchildren; her brother, Wallace “Sonny” Penland of Lexington; her sister in law, Sonja Penland of Charleston, SC; her caregivers, Barbara Evans and Cynthia Green, both of Lexington; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cross Point Church, 310 Biesecker Road, Lexington NC 27295.
