James Don Greer, 71, entered the gates of Heaven on Sunday, December 29, 2013, after a short illness, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 1, 2014, at Beck’s Reformed Church, where he was a member, with the Rev. Steve Regan officiating. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at Davidson Funeral Home.
Mr. Greer was born March 31, 1942, to James Zeno and Treva Briggs Greer. He was a very devoted husband, loving father and grandfather. He enjoyed golfing with his friends and spending time with his grandchildren, especially their sporting events and cooking for his family. He graduated from Central Davidson Senior High School in 1960 and earned a degree from Appalachian State University in 1964. After graduating from ASU he taught at Lexington Middle School for one year before entering the real estate business for several years. He owned and operated a garbage service prior to being owner/operator of Central Lumber Company until his death. He was also a member of the Southeastern Lumber Manufacturing Association. At his church he attended the Men’s Bible Class and was a former Deacon and Sunday school teacher.
Surviving are his loving wife of 49 years, Joyce Leatherwood Greer; daughters, Penny Link and husband Stan and Stephanie Shoaf and husband Scott; granddaughter, Taylor Shoaf; grandson, Tyson Shoaf who were the apple of his eye; and a brother, John Greer and wife Judy all of Lexington.
