Don Layton

Donald “Don” Winborne Layton, 91, of Lexington went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at his daughter’s home.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 29, 2020 at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Rev. Sandy Young officiating.

Mr. Layton will lie in state from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Tuesday at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington.

Mr. Layton was born in Davidson County on June 1, 1929 to Fred Leonard Layton and Mary Viola Wilson Layton. He was a retired assembler, having worked for Stroh’s and was a member of Second Reformed United Church of Christ. Mr. Layton was a veteran of the Army, served in the Korean War, and was a member of the American Legion, Post 8 as well as the VFW, Post 3074. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather whose memory will be cherished forevermore. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five brothers, Wilson, Calvin, Jay, Richard, and Boyce Layton; and one sister, Violet Hearn Goodman.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 70 years, Rachel Burkhart Layton of the home; his children, Susan Vanzant (Ricky) of Lexington and Donnie Layton (Lora) of Wallburg; four grandchildren, Chris Beck (Leah), Ricky Vanzant, Jr. (Stacy), Adam Layton (Michelle), and Page Layton Flannery (Dillion); four great-grandchildren, Rachel Beck, Haley Vanzant, Caroline Vanzant, and Adelle Layton; and a host of nieces and nephews.
