Donald Gray Cecil

Donald Gray Cecil of Welcome passed away Wednesday morning, September 11, 2013 at his home. He had been in declining health for 5 months. A visitation will be held on Friday, September 13th from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel in Midway. Funeral services will be Saturday, September 14 at 11:00 AM at First Baptist Church of Welcome. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Donald was born in Lexington on August 14, 1948 to Artis and Betty Everhart Cecil. He was retired from the US Postal Service. Donald was most proud of being an Air Force Veteran. Preceded in death by his mother, sister Glenda, mother-in-law Geraldine Wimmer, brother-in-laws Micky Wicker and Jody Wimmer and nephew Scotty Wishon. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gina Wimmer Cecil; precious daughter Laura and grandson Konner, his father and sister, Gail (Steve) Wishon all of Welcome and numerous cousins, nephews, nieces, his father-in-law Bob Wimmer and faithful canine companion Frosty who never left his side when he was at home. The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to Dr. Valerie Moore of the VA in Salisbury for her loving care. Also, the nursing staff at Building 42, 2D wing for their care and support during his stay who made the situation more bearable. Memorials to the W. G. Hefner VA Medical Center, 1601 Brenner Ave., Salisbury, NC 28144 in Donald’s honor are most appreciated. Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel is assisting the family.
