Donald Ray Flowers, 63, of the Hedrick’s Grove Community, passed away Saturday, June 30 after a sudden illness.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday at the Davidson Funeral Home Chapel, by the Rev. Mark Blair. Burial will follow at the First Baptist Church of Welcome Cemetery with Military Rites by the Davidson County Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 AM Wednesday prior to the funeral service and other times at the home of his daughter, Susan Mash, on Old Highway 75 in the Hedrick’s Grove Community.
Mr. Flowers was born July 7, 1948 in Durham County to Melvin J. Flowers and Beatrice Gates Flowers. Upon graduation from North Davidson High School in 1969, he served in the US Army in Korea until 1971. He was the owner and operator of Flowers Used Cars in Hedrick’s Grove for 35 years. He was also a member of First Baptist Church of Welcome for 60 years and served as secretary and treasurer for his Sunday School class. His father preceded him in death, as well as his sister, Betty Jo Flowers and his son in law, Paul Mash, Jr., who passed away in January, 2012.
He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Charlene Flynn Flowers; his daughter, Susan Mash and his grandson, Jordan Mash, both of Lexington, and his daughter, Amy Harris and husband, Chris, and his granddaughter, Abby, all of Wilmington; his mother, of Welcome; his sisters, Melba Carrick and husband, Larry Joe, of Southmont; Linda Worley and husband, Roger, of Hedrick’s Grove; his brothers, James Flowers and wife, Nell, of Shreveport, LA, and Larry Flowers of Welcome; and several nieces and nephews.
