Donald Lee (Don) Lanning

August 23, 1932 — January 25, 2019

Donald Lee (Don) Lanning, age 86 of Waitman Road, Lexington passed away Friday afternoon January 25, 2019 at Alston Brook.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday January 30, 2019 at First Baptist Church, where he was a member with Dr. Ray Howell, III and Rev. Tommy Wilson officiating. Burial will follow at Reeds Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church parlor from 10:00 until 11:00 AM prior to the service.

Don was born in Davidson County August 23, 1932 to Virgil Lee Lanning and Livie Mae Myers Lanning. Don was a graduate of Oakridge Military Academy, a graduate of Catawba College and a graduate of UNC-Greensboro with a Masters in Education Administration. Don was retired from Davidson County Community College where he was the Dean of Continuing Education Program and Don served his country in the United States Navy. Preceding him in death was his parents and his daughter Amelia Lanning who passed away in June of 2017.

Surviving are his wife, Gale Musgrave Lanning of Mallard Ridge; son, Nathan Lanning (Angela) of Charlotte and a grandson, Nathan William Lanning of Charlotte.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to First Baptist Church, PO Box 436, Lexington, NC 27293 or to Reeds Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 180 Reeds Baptist Church Road Lexington, NC 27295.
