Donald Bruce Michael

Donald Bruce Michael, 75 passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 13th at his daughters home. Don was born November 25, 1939 to Harry Ernest Michael and Mary Frances Michael in Lexington, NC. He was a 1957 graduate of North Davidson High School and served in the US Army Reserves. He began working as a teenager for the family business, Michael Plumbing Company, later, earned his associate degree in business management. He retired in 1991 as President but continued working part time until 2005. Don was a charter member of Pauls Chapel Church. He served on the men’s brotherhood, men’s softball team and Sunday school teacher. He was a past member of the West Lexington Fire Dept. and current member of West Lexington Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother in law Roland Craig Worley and son in law Dr. Michael E. King. Surviving are former wife of 29 years, soulmate and very dear friend Billie Carol Michael; son, Donald (Bruce) Michael, Jr. of the home; a daughter, Donna Michael King of Midway; two granddaughters, Kristin Lane Michael and Meagan Dillon Ferrell (Kevin); great-granddaughters, Alana Michelle Ferrell and Kinsley Nicole Ferrell; brother, Darrell Michael (Patsy); a sister, Jane Michael Worley all of Lexington; many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews to whom he considered a very special blessing each in their own special way. Don was well known for his loving and giving heart regardless of differences “Humanity” was by far his favorite word. He always wanted to be a good neighbor and friend. He will always be remembered for his keen since of humor and wit. Don was most at peace spending time with his family especially his granddaughters and their families. He was a brilliant historian and avid coin collector. He had a love for antiques and classic cars. A 1:00 PM memorial service has been planned for Saturday, May 16th at Paul’s Chapel Church in Lexington. The family will greet visitors from 12:00 to 1:00 PM at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to West Lexington Lions Club, 2622 West Center Street Ext., Lexington, NC 27295 or Hospice & Palliative Care Center’s 101 Hospice Lane, Winston Salem, NC 27103.
