Donnie Lee Merritt, 68, of Kenwood Lane, Lexington died Thursday, September 24, 2015 at his home. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, Sept. 29, 2015 in Davidson Funeral Home Chapel with Preacher Clyde Akers officiating. Burial will follow in National Cemetery in Salisbury. The family will receive friends from 9:45 to 10:45 am prior to the service. Mr. Merritt was born September 29, 1946 in Winchester, VA to Cecil Elwood Merritt and Cordelia Lee Merritt. He was Sgt. 1st Class in the US Army and was of the Lutheran faith. His parents preceded him in death. Surviving are his wife, Barbara Lee Herron Merritt of the home; two sons, Kevin Layne Merritt and girlfriend Lori Everhart, Aaron Lee Merritt both of Lexington; a daughter, Johnna Lin Merritt Pope (Dwight) of Sophia; seven grandchildren, Maranda Ann Merritt, Tabitha Louise Pope, Erin Chyanne Pope, Ethan Everhart, Courtney Everhart, Sierra Everhart, Hailey Everhart; two brothers, Tommy Merritt (Faye) of Stephens City, VA, Eddie Kelican (Susan) of Middletown, Maryland; two sisters, Maryla Nix (Bob) of Longmount, CO and Gail Mayberry of Salt Lake City, UT.
