Doris Shaw Brown

Doris Shaw Brown, age 72 of Lexington, NC passed away Friday at Forsyth Medical Center with her family and friends by her side.

A funeral service to celebrate her life will be at 11:00 AM Saturday, September 16, 2023, at First United Methodist Church with Rev. A.C. Brock officiating. Burial will follow at Lexington City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home in Lexington, NC from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM Friday evening, September 15, 2023.

Doris was born in Yokohama, Japan on November 5, 1950, to Robert Gwyn Shaw and Noriko Hino Shaw. Doris was a graduate of Alleghany High School in Sparta, NC, and Appalachian State University where she received her degree in Business and Education. Her professional career began at Davidson EMC in Lexington, NC. and she progressed with the company to become VP of Governmental Affairs with EnergyUnited and retired after 32 years of service. In addition to her professional career, she was elected as President of the US Jaycee Women and served and volunteered for numerous non-profit organizations around the piedmont area. She cherished her role as a wife and mother above all. Doris will be greatly missed for positive “can do” spirit, her willingness to help others and her dedication to her community.

Doris is survived by her loving husband Jimmy Brown: son, Robert Douglas Gosnell of Atlanta, GA; daughter Kim Gosnell Yancey of Charlotte, NC; sister Judy Shaw Smith of Lincolnton, NC; brothers and sisters in law, Bobby and Susan Shaw of Sparta, NC, Mike and Lynn Brown of Lexington, NC, and many other extended family members.

In lieu of flowers, memorials should be directed to ALSAC/St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
