Doris Mae Nance Ellis, age 88 of Forest Hill Road, Lexington passed away Tuesday morning October 4, 2016 at Grayson Creek of Welcome. Funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 7, 2016 at Pauls Chapel Evangelical and Reformed Church, where she was a member with Rev. Aaron Long officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home from 6:00 until 8:00 PM Thursday night and at other times at the home. Doris was born in Davidson County May 26, 1928 to John McCoy Nance and Martha Ida Elizabeth Walker Nance. She was a homemaker and worked as the bookkeeper with her late husband Leonard at Ellis Jewelers which they owned until 1978. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leonard Wilson Ellis, Sr.; sisters, Ernestine Barnhardt, June Thorp and Valier Doby; brothers, Fred and Calvin Nance and long-time friend and employee, Bobby Weaver. Surviving are her son, Leonard Wilson Ellis, Jr. (Holly) of Winston Salem; daughter, Linda Mashburn of Lexington; granddaughter, Wendy Coe; great-grandchildren, Robert and Brittany Rich; sister, Maureen Alexander of Lexington; and long-time friend, Betty Weaver of Lexington.
