Doris Smith Hines

Doris Smith Hines 84 passed away Monday afternoon at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home. A memorial graveside service will be held 11 Am Thursday August 20, 2009 at Cannan United Methodist Church Cemetery, where she was a member conducted by Rev. Chuck Ireson. Mrs. Hines was born in Davidson County on December 28, 1924 to David Nelson Smith and Mattie Nifong Smith. She worked at Sara Lee Hosiery and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was preceded in death by her “Rock” and loving husband of 65 years William Rockford Hines who passed away April 3, 2007; her daughter Linda Sue Hines, a grandson J. P. Keenan; her parents, and a brother Henry Smith, and sister Francis Hines Surviving are two daughters; Vickie Hartman and Sherry Keenan and husband John both of Winston-Salem; one granddaughter, Brandy Keenan Larking and husband Terry, and one great-grandson Keenan Rockford Larking; one sister Edith Leonard of Welcome and many nieces and nephews. Doris was the truest example, of a wife, mother, grandmother and friend. She was an active member of her church until dementia took over her mind & body. A hard worker, she was always giving, helping, & doing for others. She was loved by all who knew her. A visitation will be held 6-8 pm Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home Hickory Tree Chapel, 858 Hickory Tree Road, Winston-Salem NC.
