Doris Elizabeth Lanning Long, 81, of North N.C. Highway 150, Lexington, died Friday, April 13, 2007, at Forsyth Medical Center after a sudden illness.
Mrs. Long was born June 8, 1925, in Davidson County to William Howard Lanning and Blanche Craver Lanning. She worked for Erlanger Mills, Duracell and later for the YMCA in Lexington. She was an active member of Ladies Auxiliary of A-RC-H Fire and Rescue. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph Long; and her sons, Ralph Wayne Long, Raeford Layne Long and E.J. Long; and will be dearly missed by her many friends and family.
She is survived by a son, Joe Long, and wife, Donna, of Lexington; a daughter-in-law, Betty Sowers Long Rogers, and husband, John, of Winston-Salem; a brother, Tommy Lanning, and wife, Kathy, of Lexington; a sister, Jean Lanning Hill, and husband, Carlton, of Clemmons; four grandchildren, Amy Long, Jeff Long and wife, Wendy, Cassandra Long and Megan Long; a niece, Carla Hill Warrick, and husband, Will; her nephews, Lance Lanning, and wife, Shawn, Keith Lanning and wife, Dee, and Derek Hill and wife, Jessica; nephew Richard Long; other nieces and nephews; and her great-nieces and great-nephews, Jordan and Blake Lanning, Karlee Lanning, Matthew and Morgan Warrick and Peyton and Anna Hill.
The funeral service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Arcadia Church of Christ, where she was a member, with Bobby Leonard, Sam Crews and Tony Morrison officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at Davidson Funeral Home - Hickory Tree Chapel, and other times at the home of her son, 1073 Ruff Leonard Road, Lexington.
