Doris Ward Hedrick

August 23, 1932 — June 4, 2026

Lexington

Doris Ward Hedrick, formerly of Lexington, NC, and later a resident of Piedmont Crossing in Thomasville, NC, passed away peacefully at Hinkle Hospice House in Lexington on June 4, 2026, at the age of 93.

Doris was born on August 23, 1932, in Davidson County to the late John Daniel Ward and Lottie Fritts Ward. She was proud to be the middle child in her loving family of eleven children.

After graduating from Pilot High School, she married the love of her life, Carl Willis Hedrick. As a homemaker and devoted mother, she generously volunteered to help with activities at her children’s schools, Hedrick’s Grove Reformed Church, and Meals on Wheels. She also spent countless hours helping family members whenever needed. Many cherished times with family and friends were spent at Windy Hill Beach and High Rock Lake.

Doris will be remembered for her love of family and her kind heart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Carl Willis Hedrick; and her siblings, Buford Ward, Ed Ward, Dan Ward, Archie Ward, John Ray Ward, Edith Truitt, Jackie Farabee, and Kaye Everhart.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Jeannette Renas (Jim) of Lexington and Willis Hedrick, Jr. (Mindy) of High Point; her sisters, Ruth Jolly of Lexington and Mary Workman (David) of Thomasville; her grandchildren, Ben Renas, Caryn Renas Knott (Arthur), Will Hedrick, and Ward Hedrick; and her five great-grandchildren, Sullivan Whitlow, Oliver Knott, River Knott, Sylvie Knott, and Grove Knott.

She also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews whom she looked forward to seeing each year at the annual Ward Christmas party.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, June 14, at 3:00 p.m. at the Columbarium at Hedrick’s Grove Reformed UCC, with Pastor Foster Carney officiating.

Following the service, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall and provide light refreshments as they celebrate Doris’s 93 years of life. During this informal gathering, there will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to share special memories. (This is a casual dress event.)

The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of Hinkle Hospice House and Hospice of Davidson County for their compassionate care.

Memorial donations may be made to Hedrick’s Grove Reformed UCC, 3840 Allred Road, Lexington, NC 27292; Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292; or to the charity of the donor’s choice
