Doris was born in Robeson County to Ford Kinlaw and Beulah Smith Kinlaw. She graduated from nursing school in 1957. She moved to Lexington in 1965; graduated from North Carolina Baptist Hospital School of Anesthesia for nurses in 1970, at the age of 35 which was uncommon for her time; and retired CRNA, from Rowan Medical Center, in Salisbury; co-owner of National Auto Painting and National Cab Company. She was a member of Amazing Grace Baptist Church. After retirement she helped various businesses her husband started including Bob’s Rooming Houses, National Auto Painting and National Cab Company. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She always had a smile even when cancer had taken everything else from her. Her smile lifted the spirits of all who where on the receiving end. She was never one to be told that she couldn’t do something. She took flying lessons and achieved her pilots license. She and husband traveled abroad and enjoyed living at High rock Lake, where water gave her peace. More than anything she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, loved crochet and painting and painted many local churches and donated them. In life she was an inspiration to all of those around her and in death she exemplified strength, courage and character and was always a lady. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Gerow and Ford Kinlaw, Jr. In her name all of her crocheted caps and wigs to the local cancer center.
