Dorisanne Sholes Ransom was born on October 31, 1925 in New Windsor, New York and died on Monday, February 27, 2012 from complications of a broken heart at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice in Winston Salem, NC. When she lost her husband two years ago there was a steady decline of her health that followed. There were frequent statements that she wished to be with her husband Donald Fuller Ransom. She became extremely ill on what would have been Donald's 88th birthday on February 22, 2012. Dorisanne resided at Mallard Ridge Assisted Living the last years of her life and was given great and comforting care. The family is very grateful for the care that was given to both Dorisanne and Donald.
Dorisanne has one surviving sister Mrs. Mildred Sholes Thiele of Bethel, Connecticut. Both of her parents Roland Sholes, Margaret Purdy Sholes Lee and her stepfather Norman Lee preceded her in death.
Surviving her are daughter Debby Ransom and Debby's husband Dan Berglund of Chapin South Carolina, her son Roland Everitt Ransom (Randy) and wife Colleen of Clemmons, NC and their children. Her grandchildren are, Joshua Fuller Ransom PhD and his fiancée Abigail Wright of Jersey City, New Jersey, Grahm Everitt Ransom, his wife Heather Dickson Ransom of Raleigh NC, and Elizabeth (Ellie) Hope Ransom of Manhattan, New York. She also leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews.
Dorisanne retired from Southern Bell Telephone Company and prior to that worked for New York Telephone and Telegraph. Both were part of AT&T at the time of retirement. After Dorisanne and Donald retired they bought a small farm in Danbury, NC and lived most of their retirement at their farm.
Dorisanne and Donald were avid travelers while they were in good health. Beaches and salt water had a special place in her life from childhood.
The family will receive friends at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel from 6:30 until 8:30 pm Wednesday.
She will be buried at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, NC with her husband. It will be a private ceremony for the family.
