Dorothy Avery Johnson

November 18, 1928 — July 28, 2021

Dorothy “Dot” Avery Johnson, 92, of Lexington went to home to be with her Lord and Savior Wednesday, July 28, 2021.

As per her wishes, a graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Forest Hill Memorial Park with the Revs. Darcy Abbott and Rodney Merrill officiating.

Mrs. Johnson will lie in state for family and friends at Davidson Funeral Home at 10:00 am prior to the graveside service.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Halifax County, November 18, 1928, to Neal Rufus Avery and Ada Gertrude Byrd Avery. She worked for Gibson’s until its closing and retired from Sky City. Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Lexington Church of God. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bobby Van Johnson; a baby daughter, Patsy Ann Johnson; brothers, Neal Junior Avery, Sherrill R. Avery; sisters, Pansy Junkins, Wilhelmina “Virgie” Wicker, and Pauline “Polly: Woodburn.

She was a loving mother to her surviving daughters, Donna J. Shillinglaw (Rex) and Debbi J. Craver (Freddie) both of Lexington; grandchildren, Jeremy Shillinglaw (Madara), Hailey Ringley, and Taylor Elizabeth Craver; great-grandchildren, Matthew and Sarah Shillinglaw; and a host of loving nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff of Hospice of Davidson County for their wonderful, loving, home care that they provided for her.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Davidson County at 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292.
