Dorothy Veigh Shoaf McDaniel, 89, formerly of Deer Haven Lane, died Wednesday, May 21, 2008, at Centerclair Nursing Center. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church by the Rev. Loretta Stutz. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mrs. McDaniel was born Sept. 14, 1918, in Davidson County to Fred Motley Shoaf and Etta Fritts Shoaf. She retired from Dacotah Cotton Mills and was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church. Her husband, Theodore Grimes McDaniel, preceded her in death. Surviving are her sons, Jerry McDaniel of Greensboro and Kenneth McDaniel of Charleston, W.Va.; her daughter, Brenda Hedrick of Lexington; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Lillian Lanning, Mamie Lanning and Mary Byerly, all of Lexington. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel and other times at the home on Deer Haven Lane. Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, 1400 Mt. Carmel Church Road, Lexington, NC 27295, or to Centerclair Nursing Center, 185 Yountz Road, Lexington, NC 27292.
