Dorothy Vandeburg Rankin

Dorothy Ellen Vandeburg Rankin, 95, of Glenwood Drive, died Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Wake Forest Baptist Health – Lexington Medical Center.   A celebration of life service will be 1 p.m. Friday, May 20, 2011, at Tyro United Methodist Church Chapel with the Rev. Randy Foster officiating. The family will receive friends following the service.   Mrs. Rankin was born February 24, 1916, in Broome County, NY, to Vernon Vandeburg and Olive Gray Vandeburg. She graduated Cum Laude in education from Syracuse University in 1937. She was also awarded Phi Beta Kappa Honorary Degree and was a member of the Volleyball team. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Harold James Rankin.   Surviving are her sons, James Gray Rankin and wife, Marjorie Convery, of Florida, William Rankin and wife, Patty, of New York, Don Rankin and wife, Linda, of Lexington, and Tom Rankin and wife, Sarah, of Apex; daughter, Barbara Stewart and husband, James, of New York; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.   Memorials may be made to the charity of the Donor’s choice.     Online condolences may be made at www.davidsonfuneralhome.net
