Dorothy Jean Rushing

Dorothy Jean Rushing, age 84 of Alston Brook Nursing Center, formerly of East Tenth Avenue Ext. passed away Thursday morning, January 11, 2018 after a period of declining health. A memorial service to honor her life will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at Second Presbyterian Church with Rev. Brian rummage officiating. Jean was born in Guilford County, July 7, 1933 to Julius Saunders Linville and Nettie Lithicum Linville. She was a retired employee of Lexington Furniture. She was a member of Second Presbyterain Church, and in 2004 she was awarded a Lifetime Presbyterain Womens Membership. She was preceded in death by her parents at a very young age; husbands, David S. Ray and J.D. Rushing; son, David Kelly Ray; sisters, Helen Mabe, Gladys Tilley, Msartha Suits and Ann Gleason and a brother, John Saunders Linville. Jean loved people and was always ready to help. She had a passion for making bread with her caring loving hands and made the communion bread for many years. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Ray of Lexington (Woody Harvey); son, Jimmy D. Rushing (Dana Koonts) of Lexington; grandchildren, Brenda Ray Akers and Kellan Rushing; great-grandchildren, Randall and Trace Akers.
