Dorothy Norris Smathers

Dorothy Elizabeth Norris Smathers, 92 of Yadkin College Road, Lexington, died Monday night at her home after declining health of two years. Mrs Smathers was born in Watauga County on May 1, 1913 to William Wilson and Annie Mae Pennal she was retired from Appalachian College and a member or Union Fork Baptist Church in Boone, NC. She is preceded in death by her husband Charles Arthur Smathers who died in 1984 and two daughters Rene Hollars and Ann Smathers Sims. Also two Grandsons Timothy Lynn Stamey and Troy Lee Hollars She is survived by her sons: Joseph William Smathers of Wilkesboro, and Robert Alan Smathers and wife Gail of Ellenboro, NC; a daughter, Dorothy Carol Smathers Parsons of Lexington; 18 grandchildren; 26 Great Grandchildren;and a special friend, Carolyn Loomis of Lexington. The funeral service will be held 10:00 AM Thursday at Davidson Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Clyde Akers. The burial will be at 2:30 PM Thursday at Red Bank Cemetery in Waynesville, NC. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday at DAVIDSON FUNERAL HOME and at other times at the home on Yadkin College Rd., Lexington.
