Mrs. Dorothy Richardson Smith 93 of of The Oaks at Forsyth County, formerly of Welcome Bethesda Road, Lexington, NC passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Kate B. Reynolds. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, June 27 at Midway United Methodist Church, Lexington, NC by Rev. John Woods. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
A visitation will be held from 6 to8 PM at Davidson Funeral Home, Hickory Tree Chapel on Tuesday, June 26, 2012.
She was born in Davie County, NC on March 10, 1919 to the late Robert Walter and Lettie Elnora Boyd Richardson. She was retired from Lucent Technologies in 1988 with 37 years of service. She was a member of the Communications Workers of America, serving as a Union Steward and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. She was a member of Midway United Methodist Church, The Ladies Bible Sunday School Class, The Willing Workers Circle and The United Methodist Women, receiving a Lifetime Membership Pin Award. She was also a member of the Midway Homemakers Club.
Mrs. Smith was married to Harley Reynolds Smith who preceded her in death in 2000. Also preceding her in death, a son Harley Reid Smith, a daughter, Mary Lou Smith Curry, both parents, six brothers (Elmer, Alvlin, Leroy, Shirley, Donald and Clyde Richardson; four sisters, (Frances Busby, Ann Schiller, Elizabeth Cale and Louise Swisher, and a daughter-in-law, Sandra Leonard Smith.
She is survived by two brothers, William Richardson (Pearlie) of Mocksville, Bobby Richardson (Sue) of Chapin, SC, a son-in-law Sid Curry, daughter-in-law Rosemary Smith both of Welcome, NC; five grandchildren, Catherine Curry of Lighthouse Point, FL, Kimel Curry, Charlie Curry (Wendi), Harley Smith, II (Kim) all of Welcome and Cindy Burris (David) of Lexington; four great-grandchildren, Jesse Smith, Blaine Curry, Devan and Cameron Burris; step-grandsons, Dean, Brandon and Brian Wood and several nieces and nephews.
