Dorothy Poag Stiller

July 26, 1928 — March 5, 2017

Dorothy Poag Mason Stiller, 88, formerly of Tyro, peacefully passed away Sunday, March 5, 2017, at Lexington Health Care, where she had been a resident for 6 years.  The funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday, March 7 at Tyro United Methodist Church, where she was a member, with the Rev. Randy Foster officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 2 to 3 p.m. at the church.  Dot was born in the Trading Ford community of Rowan County, to Joe Barber Poag and Notie Gobble Poag on July 26, 1928. She attended Churchland School and was employed for 22 ½ years at Manhattan Shirt Company. Dot enjoyed her beautiful flowers and working in her yard. She was known for being a wonderful cook. She especially enjoyed making her chicken and dumplings, orange slice cakes, fried apple pies, and Willie Hugh’s favorite raisin cake. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William Bill Stiller who died in 1993 and her first husband, Willie Hugh Mason Jr. who died in 1978; two sisters, Marie Swicegood and Sue Hilliard.  Surviving are her loving family, Don Rea Padon (Melvin) of Lexington and Pamela Snider of Churchland; grandchildren, Dwayne Padon, Angie Padon, both of Lexington, Cristy Myers (Alex), Candis Rogers (Benji), all of Churchland; three great-grandsons, Ashton Myers, Lennon Myers and Maddox Rogers; sisters, Evelyn Miller, Joan Forrest, both of Lexington, and Mary Long of Salisbury; and brother, Tommy Poag (Evie) of Lexington.
