Dorothy Walser

Dorothy Powell Michael Walser, 96, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2019 at Piedmont Crossing, Thomasville, NC

A memorial service will be held 3:00 pm Friday, February 15 th at First Baptist Church in Lexington, NC with Dr. Ray Howell, officiating the service.  A visitation reception will be held after the service in the church Fellowship Hall.

Born on September 8, 1922 in Rocky Mount NC, Dot moved to Lexington, NC in 1946 after her marriage to Harry Michael.  She worked in the Sales Office of Leggett & Platt, Inc. for 23 years, retiring in 1984.  Dot enjoyed being a part of many organizations including the Joy Canasta Club, Professional Business Women, & In-City Extension Homemakers Club, serving as President and later appointed to the County Environment Issues Coordinator.  She was a loyal member of First Baptist Church and the Good News Sunday School Class.

Dot volunteered at Lexington Memorial Hospital for 25 years, enjoyed traveling with her church, friends, & family and loved to garden & cook. She will always be remembered for her sourdough bread and lemon pound cake.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ammie Powell and Addie Powell Dail, first husband, Harry Michael, second husband, Thurman Walser, and step-son, John Walser.

Surviving is her only child, Carol Michael Young (Tom Ullman) of High Point, NC; three grandchildren, Angie Gatton (Eric) of Charlotte, NC; Mary Powell DeLille (Marc) of High Point, NC; Jennifer Conrad (Greg) of Des Moines, Iowa; six great grandchildren, David & James Gatton, Jack & Davis DeLille, Elizabeth & Sam Conrad; step-children, Bill Walser (Cheryl), Gail Thacker (Mac), Sylvia Walser; six step- grandchildren, Brian & Mark Thacker, Becky Walser Abernethy (Miller); Joni Walser Church (Andy); Hense Walser (Michele); & Thomas Ullman (Courtney); four step-great grandchildren, Margaret & Anna Abernethy, Dorothy & Jones Walser, and one nephew, Larry Michael (Judy).She will always be remembered as “Grandmommie Dot”.

Dot is also survived by her very dear companion Fred “Bud” Mayerle, of Piedmont Crossing, Thomasville, NC.

The family would like to thank with love and appreciation the staff of Piedmont Crossing and Hospice of the Piedmont for their support and outstanding care.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorials be made to Hospice of the Piedmont, 1801 Westchester Drive, High Point NC 27262 or to the First Baptist Church, 201 West Third Street, Lexington, NC 27292.
