Dorothy Sheppard Whitaker, 86, of Burler Street, died Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Hinkle Hospice House.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 2015, at Davidson Funeral Home with the Rev. Gavin Pratt and Dr. Robert Floyd officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 1 to 2 p.m. prior to the service and other times at the home.
Mrs. Whitaker was born August 18, 1929, in Stuart, Va., to Reed Marion Sheppard and Bertha Lawson Sheppard. She was a member of North Lexington Baptist Church. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, William “Billy” Whitaker, who died July 4, 2010; grandson, Seth Hollingsworth; brothers, Wilbert, Bernie, Lewis, John, Euel, Vernard, and Clarence Sheppard; and sisters, Irene Sams and Lucille Joyce.
Surviving are daughters, Deborah Hollingsworth and husband Eugene of Lexington and Doris Tyson and husband the Rev. Bob Tyson of Rockingham; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Dixie Blake and husband Richard of Vermont.
The family would like to thank Hospice of Davidson County for the wonderful care given to Mrs. Whitaker during her illness.
