Dorthea Jean Kellette “Dot” Essick, 83, of Friendship Church Road, died Tuesday, November 27, 2007, at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home, Winston-Salem, after a 6 month serious illness.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Friendship United Methodist Church, where she was a member, by the Rev. Carroll C. Lupton Jr. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Essick was born January 26, 1924, in Cumberland County to Eugene Austin Kellette and Lena Carr Koonce Kellette. She was a graduate of High Point College and Appalachian State University. She was also a retired assistant principal from North Davidson Middle School. Mrs. Essick was a member of the United Methodist Women, choir director, organist and Sunday school teacher at her church.
Surviving are her husband, Norman Eugene “Gene” Essick of the home; daughter, Julia Swicegood and husband, Webster, of Lexington; sons, Eugene Essick of Lexington and Clay Essick and wife, Tina, of Winston-Salem; grandchildren, Meredith Swicegood, John Swicegood, Matt Essick and Will Essick; and sister, Helen Hinkle of Welcome.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Davidson Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of the donor’s choice.
