Doug Craver

September 18, 1926 — September 10, 2016

Mr. Thomas Douglas Craver, age 89, of Weaver Road in Lexington, passed away Saturday, September 10, 2016 at Forsyth Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC. A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Center United Methodist Church with the Revs. Eddie Evans and Mitch Wilson officiating. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm prior to the service and again following the service in the Christian Fellowship Center at the Church. Mr. Craver was born in Davidson County on September 18, 1926 to Numa Hoyle Craver and Daisy Pierce Craver. He was a member of Center United Methodist Church, where he was a charter member of the Methodist Men, a member of the Friendship Sunday School Class, and was always active within the church. Mr. Craver was also retired from NH Craver Construction and was the Owner and Operator of Doug Craver Greenhouses, as well as a member of the American Rose Society, the Winston Salem Rose Society, and a master gardener who won awards at the State and National level. Many folks who enjoyed gardening would consult with Doug for advice. Mr. Craver was a member of the Welcome Civitan for 60 years, and was a former board member of the Shelter Workshop of Davidson County for 41 years. In addition to Mr. Craver’s many accomplishments, he is also a veteran, having served in the US Navy during WWII. In addition to his parents, Mr. Craver was preceded in death by an infant son, Tommy Craver; three brothers, infant Joe Craver, Bill Craver and Claude Craver; three sisters, Ann Craver, Lois Disher, and Irene Shoaf. Surviving are his loving wife of 69 years, Dorothy Zimmerman Craver of the home; a son, Mike Craver (Kim) of Lexington; three daughters, Loretta Evans (Calvin) of Graham, Karen Haynes Thrower (Frank), and Donese Jarvis Parker (Homer) all of Lexington; five grandchildren, David Jarvis, Angie Tysinger,(Brandon) Allyson Ellis (Kris), Ginny Byerly (Adam), all of Lexington and Jennifer Caligan (Heath), of Harrisburg, NC and nine great grandchildren.
