Douglas (Doug) Franklin Beck passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at Hinkle Hospice House in Davidson County with his family by his side.
The funeral service will be 11:00 AM Saturday, August 16, 2025, at Beck’s Reformed Church Columbarium with Pastor Roland Slater officiating, family will visit with friends following the service. The family will also receive friends at the home.
Doug was born on April 6, 1942, in Lexington, NC to Helen Link Beck and Robert Trenton Beck. Along with his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his two brothers, Thomas (Tommy) Webster Beck and Harold Beck and a favorite uncle, James Link.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 62 years Gayle Lyons Beck, daughters, Wendy Beck Younts and husband Roger Younts, Lynn Beck Walser and husband Jerry Walser, grandchildren Trent Younts, William Younts, Katie Walser (Wes Matthews), Jackson Walser and his sister, Nancy Curry along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.
Doug was a graduate of NC State where he received his degree in electrical engineering. He continued working until his 80th birthday. He became a Wake Forest and Appalachian State football fan where he spent many Saturday afternoons with his grandchildren and their friends.
Doug shared his love for the outdoors with his family. This led to many family trips to National Parks, tent camping and hiking in the mountains, along with many trips to the beaches of North and South Carolina.
Doug was a faithful servant of God not only in church, but by living his life to show his Christian beliefs. He served in many roles at Becks Reformed Church. He enjoyed teaching Sunday School, being a Church Historian, and served as a Deacon and Elder.
Doug was a man of many talents. He loved woodworking where he carved many gifts for his family and friends. He enjoyed working in his yard where he planted many beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed watercolor and acrylic painting.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the staff at Hinkle Hospice House. The compassion and kindness they shared with Doug and his family during the last days is greatly appreciated.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hinkle Hospice House of Davidson County or to the Building Fund at Becks Reformed Church.
