Douglas Patrick Moulton, Sr, 1959 - 2025, of Midway, NC died peacefully on September 17, 2025 at the age of 66. Born on March 17, 1959 in Sanford, ME, Doug (or Dougie to his family and friends) lived a life defined by hard work, family and love. He was brave, funny, compassionate and a true fighter until the end. After graduating from Massabesic High School in 1977, he served in the United States Navy, traveling the world as he served his country. Doug moved back to Maine after his honorable discharge, where he met the love of his life, Kathleen. They wed that same year. Doug and Kathy shared a love that was beyond inspiring, the kind of love that transcends all boundaries and obstacles, spreading pervasively to those who witnessed it. Together they built an enviable life, not measured by material things, but full of character and love. Doug and Kathy raised four children, Erin, Amy, Megan, and Doug Jr in Alfred, ME. Doug’s drive and passion for life carried over into his love of gardening. To say he had two green thumbs would be an understatement; from growing flowering plants to growing a diverse vegetable garden, his skills and knowledge seemed never-ending when it came to plants. Doug loved and appreciated family vacations to the beach at Oak Island. He and Kathy were always the first ones up in the mornings to get out on the beach and soak in the beauty of life and family. Doug’s love for the outdoors could only be outweighed by his love for his family. He loved to be outside, hunting, fishing, gardening or simply taking a walk down to the creek. Doug was a natural teacher in life, guiding those new to his profession as a mechanic and welder through the ins and outs of the industry. His children learned through his patient passion how to hunt, change a tire, take care of a home, and most importantly, how to take care of each other.
Doug is preceded in death by his parents Linwood and Winifred Moulton, brothers Paul and Arnold as well as his beloved wife, Kathleen.
Doug is survived by his four children, daughter Erin Jones, spouse Brian Jones, daughter Amy Moulton, spouse Travis Alley, daughter Megan Cox, spouse Andrew Cox, son Douglas Moulton Jr, spouse Amy Moulton, and his four grandchildren, Dylan Elizabeth, Patrick Douglas, Cayden Walter and Noah Kenneth; three sisters Lynne Taylor of Rochester, NH, Jeannie Peterson of MA, Jean Moulton of Waterboro, ME, brother Curtis Moulton of Alfred, ME; and sister-in-laws Laurel Richards of Alfred, ME and Carol Gilpatrick of Groton, MA as well as many very special nieces and nephews. Doug also leaves behind “his boys”, dogs, Beau and Colter.
A private memorial service will be held. Doug requested that in lieu of flowers that donations be made in Doug’s honor to either Brenner’s Children Hospital in Winston-Salem, NC or Hospice of Davidson County in Lexington, NC.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Atrium Health who guided Doug and his family through his treatment, his long-time doctor Joan who always ensured his comfort, Carolina BioOncology Institute who gave him hope and will allow him to live on with his contributions to cancer studies, and the caring nurses, doctors and staff at Hospice of Davidson County who cared for him with such compassion in his final days.
