Doyle Joseph Barker

Doyle Joseph Barker, age 75 of Lexington, passed away Tuesday morning December 26, at Hinkle Hospice House after several years of declining health.   A memorial service to celebrate his life will be 2:00 p.m. Saturday December 30, at Madison Heights Free Will Baptist Church, with Rev. David Robinson officiating. Burial will be in Swain County at a later date. The family will receive friends 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the church and other times at the home of the son, 187 Jane Blvd Lexington, NC.   Doyle was born October 11, 1942 in Swain County to Troy Lee Barker and Jessie Lee Barker Barker. He worked in furniture for several years and was the former owner and operator of Barker’s grocery. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Winfred ,Arvil, and Fred; sisters Wanda Jenkins and Mildred Woodard.   He is survived by his wife of 51 years; Linda Jones Barker of the home, daughter Angie Hodges (Mo), son William Barker (Gina), grandchildren; Dustin Hodges, Dylan Hodges, Sierra Hodges, Jacob Barker, and Abby Barker all of Lexington, and his brother Ronnie Barker (Opal) of Bryson City NC, and several nieces, nephews , cousins and friends.   In lieu of flowers; the family asks that memorials be directed to Hospice of Davidson County, 200 Hospice Way, Lexington, NC 27292
